Graduated from Midwestern with a double major in journalism and history in 1970, and moved to Dallas the day after graduation. Was married that summer. Worked for Showcase Publishing for three years as a writer/editor and then for Taylor Publishing Company for seven years in organizational communications. Moved back to Wichita Falls in 1984 after my father died in a plane crash, and either talked with my mother or visited her in Iowa Park every day. My husband was manager of Amfac Industrial Supply. We moved to Austin in 1988 when Amfac went out of business. We were divorced in 1995, and he died in Dallas in 2003.
In Austin, I worked for Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation writing rules about mental retardation programs from 1989 until the state's health and human services agencies were reorganized in 2003. In the reorganization (called the "transformation"), I was transferred to the new Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services and wrote rules about intellectual and developmental disability services until my retirement in 2012.
About 18 months before retirement, I began work as a contractor for an Austin-based child sitting service, Grandparents Unlimited, and continue to this day (I also sit with dogs thru the service at Four Season Hotel!)
I've been a member of Chorus Austin (CA) in the symphonic chorus since 1996; we sing the choral masterworks by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Handel, etc. Each December, CA is the choral component of two performances of Handel's Messiah (the one with the famous Hallelujah Chorus!) with the Austin Symphony Orchestra. CA also presents it's Sing-It-Yourself Messiah at which the audience can rent Messiah scores and sing along, but only with the choruses!
